I sewed some more today! I upcycled a pair of men's Gap khaki's into cute flared shorts for MissE and I made a top with my favourite combo of stripes and florals.
For the top, I used this striped knit you are all probably very familiar with by now and the floral is an old top of mine. I use the U scoop neck pattern from the Sew Sweet: Handmade Clothes for Girls book. I made a few modifications, I omitted the button closure and simply cut the pattern on the fold at the center line and for the back I omitted the pleats ( lack of fabric) and used the top hem as it was.
I am really pleased with this top. MissE will be able to wear it with pants, shorts, leggings. What's great is that she will be able to grow into it as it's roomy and long enough.
The neckline is a little deep and I might add a little lace or stripe fabric if I feel it's inappropriate by this summer. For now she can wear it with a little camisole underneath.
I also made this cute flare shorts. The easiest shorts you will ever make! These are from the Happy Homemade: Sew Chic Kids book. I didn't have enough fabric to make the front as called for by the pattern, so I made some contrasting tuxedo style bands. A little pop of neon pink will always brighten the day.
These are great little style and very in trend with the culotte style that is ever so popular these days. I just know many more of these will be made in the near future. I would love to make a leather pair... ummm maybe for me!
I really can't stress how much I've enjoyed sewing from both these books: Happy Homemade: Sew Chic Kids and Sew Sweet: Handmade Clothes for Girls from Tuttle Publishing. . The Japanese sure know how to make simple stylish clothes and make the sewing process a breeze. So don't forget to enter the giveaway to enter a chance to win both books. If not, you can't go wrong by buying them, you get over 20 patterns for about 12$. Crazy I know! I am totally hooked and have been for years, and how great that these are in English!
You still have time to enter the giveaway for the set of books I sewed from in this post.
In case you missed Day 1's post, you can enter the GIVEAWAY until Monday noon. Please spread the word, tell your friends- I have two sets of these books to give. All you have to do is follow the instructions on the rafflecoptor. Good Luck!
