I had the great privilege of testing An's from Straight Grain's latest pdf pattern. I loved the results so much I thought it would be the perfect little top for Miss E's picnic at the park birthday party... it was!
The Hanami is such a professional and well executed pdf pattern. Not only is the actual design really cute and adorable, but the pdf pattern is a simple one with easy to follow instructions, nice recommendations and a pleasure to put together. It is a very diverse pattern with many options, first it goes from ages 1 to 10. Next it can be a top or a dress. It gives you the option to add a slim peter pan collar, a choice of tulip flutter or regular flutter sleeves and the back can be a lovely crossed back or simple with an invisible zipper.
I opted for the top with a slim peter pan collar, tulip sleeves and the invisible zipper back. The fabric I choose is an eyelet lace (100% cotton), I still have some left over from my Laila B. collection I did over 2 years ago. I lined it with some organic cotton jersey which matched perfectly.
I used a size 4 which was perfect for my little Miss E. She even has a little room to grow into it.
I just Love the sleeves and collar. I really like the length of the top and the peplum as well. It is a little sophisticated, but can be paired with pretty much anything- it's even long enough to wear with leggings! There really isn't anything I would change about it.
I'm not sure why I didn't do the cross back option maybe because I wanted the peter pan collar option more! Well, I don't own a zipper foot, so my zipper doesn't look so great, but shhhhh no one will notice!
My Little MissE loves her top and was the cutest birthday girl until she turned into a lion... a new post next week, I promise! The flower crown is one I made for her first birthday and she wears it every year. I wonder how long it will last!
I would recommend this pattern or any pattern by An from a Straight Grain to my best friend. I am still amazed at the professionalism of her patterns, the Hamani top is no exception. You can read more about it on the Straight Grain blog and buy THERE as well. I promise you will love it too.
I cannot wait to see what else An comes up with, I am a die hard fan!!!
