April's project takes its inspiration from space, and Celina's 'To Infinity and Beyond' Pinterest board. We got a little over-inspired by the theme and for a short while the house became a home to all things astronomical, filled with rocket paintings, ping pong ball planets and origami stars.
The idea of trying to make DIY galaxy print fabric had always appealed to me, and an infinity scarf seemed to be the perfect project to make use of it, although now that I've experimented with the technique I'd quite like to try in on a sweatshirt.
My youngest daughter loved the space theme so much, we also worked together to design and make some screen printed jersey for the dress she is wearing in these photos, the details of which are over on my blog today.
Back to the galaxy print scarf, to make it I used:
- A rectangle of navy blue cotton fabric - this could by a lightweight woven like a voile. I used a piece of lightweight jersey measuring 70cm x 140cm.
- Discharge paste
- Paintbrushes - a large bristled one and a finer one for adding detail.
- A sponge (I always save my old washing up sponges for this kind of project)
- Rubber gloves
- Translucent or watercolour fabric paints.
Remember to check back tomorrow for some space themed printables from Linda.
