Window Shopping at FLORA and HENRI

Do you have a favorite online childrens shop? The kind you could spend hours looking through all of the gorgeous items and dream you could buy every single piece? I do! FLORA and HENRI is just that shop. Not only is all the clothing and the accessories beautiful but the images and the styling are simply captivating. I could spend hours I tell you!

It was in 1998 that Jane Hendreen envisoned an American kids collection ( from Seattle) that would be pure, simple and exquisite with European quality and craftsmanship-  FLORA and HENRI is just that.

Everything is all so lovely, from the collection they create under their own label FLORA and HENRI, to the impeccable choices from some of my favorite brands such as Lischen Mueller, April Showers and Wovenplay- not to mention all the sweet accesories, shoes and toys from Jess Brown, Pepe, and H-Luv just to name a few.

I love all the knits from the sweaters to the bloomers for all ages. The dresses are dreamy with sweet embroidered details. And the swimsuits... really I'm speechless. The color combinations are fun and sometimes surprising, but it all works together oh so well. They are lot's of items for babies, girls and boys to wear and play with.

So do you have a few hours to spare?!? Have a look at FLORA and HENRI's beautiful website and discover the wonderful world of children's design... at it's best.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

A lesson in style! I once tried to teach my kids a little something about matching colors when choosing their clothes...

Miss E- listened a little to well and won't wear sock that don't match some color in her outfit. This saturday she decided to take that lesson a little further and dressed head to toe in red. I also taught her this weekend that she should wear only one sparkly thing at the time- she opted for the the sparkly tights!

In this photo, she found a warm and sunny spot on the kitchen floor and chilled for a little while...

Mister M- on the other hand didn't quite grasp the concept of matching colors, or perhaps I should say he doesn't care. However, I always love the way the colors end up working so well together- unexpected but so good.

This week I didn't take many photos of Mister M- we were both busy taking photos of Miss E for tomorrow's post. I love this blurry one for some reason- he is a lot harder to take photos of since he's always  moving around, dancing, being silly.

I didn't get a chance to check out everyone else's photos from last week, but I already have a few favorites for this week! See you next sunday.
What a great initiative by Jodi from Ché & Fidel!
It's never too late in join in!

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

It finally felt like spring over the weekend, we took out our spring coats and spent some time outside enjoyng the milder weather.

Mister M: determined and taking big steps to get to his destination. He desperately wanted to throw some rocks in the canal, but that was still frozen...

Miss E: enjoying and playing outside at the Atwater Market- our favorite Sunday morning hangout comes spring time!

Here are a few of my favorites from last week: the expression on this little face is amazing, these eyes- mezmerising, something about these boys made me smile, these cracked me up, finally this one is just lovely.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Miss E: she kept those swimming goggles close to her all day- she took a nap with them, here a bath and now she is sleeping with them. The kids have packed their bags for our summer vacation already- I tried to explain we were only leaving in 4 months!

Mister M: loves his piano. He was so proud of himself today, he figured out how to play the Moonrise Kingdom theme song all on his own.

I wish I had time to check out everyone's photos, I promised myself to take time and look at some of the links- unfortunately I didn't get around to it. I figured if I wrote and promised I would this week, then I would have to keep my promise! I promise.

To my readers you can check out everyone who is participating too and come and join in the fun! If you do please let me know.

A great initiative by Jodi from Ché & Fidel.

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Mister M: finally the weather is getting a little warmer- we had fun in the snow and even the park this weekend.

Miss E: a day at the beach in our living room- towels, bathing cap and goggles. The kids keep asking when it will be spring already!

Have you checked out You are my Wild yet? Basically the same concept  ( read more about it here) that I'm participating in with Ché & Fidel, but where 14 professional photographers take a photo a week to document how they see their children. So many amazing shots and ever so inspiring...

We made our first teepee this weekend, I just had to take a peek inside...

We also dressed up, the best we could with what we had, as Mario and Luigi. The kids insisted on having their entire nose painted red- so I obliged. We had a lot of fun...

This year one of my goals is to learn to take better pictures and learn how to use my camera. So I have decided to take part of this photo project- started by Joddie of Ché and Fidel, where you take one portrait of your kids every week and at the end of the year you have 52 wonderful, memorable shots. This is just the motivation I needed, I've been carrying my camera's manual around with me for years! It's about time I learnt how to use it to it's full potential.
All this got started when I was inspired by all the wonderful photos and lovely blog by Dee at She Had Us At Hello and when I discovered she was part of this wonderful project, I knew I had found my source of motivation. You should really check out both these blogs.

So I'm a little late in the game as I'm starting at week 8- better late then never! I've decided that all my photos will be taken on the manual mode of my camera which is all new to me. Also, as you might have noticed, you never really see my kids faces on the blog- well that won't change, but it's an added challenge- taking portrait without really seeing their faces. So I hope to take photos of the good times, the mood, the little moments...

And at the end of the year I will make each kid a book with their 52 portraits. I think this will make for a great Valentine's Day gift! Don't you?

Here we go, every sunday I'll be posting a portrait of each kid- wish me good luck!

Cristallines ++ Milk Magazine ++

I just got my copy of the Milk Kid's Collection Magazine, it was about time!!! I'm not sure why it takes so long for us Canadians to get our copies in the newsstands, but I'm sure glad I have it between my hands now... I'm really thinking of getting the numeric version! You get it instantaneously, it's less expensive and better for the environment, to top it off my husband will be happy since their will be less magazines lying around the whole apartment. Ok, I think I just convinced myself!!!

Issue no.35 of Milk Magazine just came out and I'm in absolute LOVE with the cover... Have a look at the Cristallines spread, simply S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G.

Do you think Miss E will like to wear a paper collar? Or perhaps I could try to recreate this with fabric and starch!
You can read all about the Swarovski Elements and Children's Designers collaboration on the online magazine.

You can also get a free sneak-peek into the new issue (http://issuu.com/milkmilk/docs/milk_35_issuu2/1 ). This will give you a taste of what a numeric issue is like, not bad! I think I might be sold on the idea...

Honestly, check it out, the Color block spread is so much fun and inspiring, you'll be glad you did!

I can't wait for the summer to come around and for us to loose our coats, hats and scarves already.

anne kurris... summer 2012

Anne Kurris is a children's clothing line from Antwerp that has been around since 1998. Anne Kurris the creator first started out as a graphic designer, so it's no wonder you find such strong graphic elements in her designs. Her collections are often influenced by pop art and nature and you can count on them being high in colors.

I am swooned by the Summer 2012 editorial shoot, taken by photographer Achim Lippoth. The colors and composition are a breath of fresh air...

For the full collection head on over to Anne Kurris website. And if you love children's fashion & photography I urge you to check out Achim Lippoth's website... the intro is so much fun! Also, these two collaborate on one of, if not the most amazing children's magazine: Kid'sWear. So check out their website, and I know I'm going to be buying the latest issue (if I can find it here in Montreal!!!).
