" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

MissE- turned 5 this week! Where does time fly? The one thing that doesn't change are her big brown eyes.

MisterM-  and I spent the week together. Grade 1 starts tomorrow.  We had some great mother & son moments.

I started a new photography class this week and got to understand metering. So these photos are unedited ( SOOC). I think I am slowly getting it! Now onto learning about ISO and aperture and white balance! Wish me luck.

If you are participating in the 52 project share your link in the comments I would love to see what you are up to. I know I haven't posted every week, i need to go back and pick out my favourites from every week I missed.

" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

MisterM-  I find that as he gets older he smiles a little less each day. He used to be such a smiley baby, I hope he keeps that big smile and joie de vivre always.

MissE- she is the most serious of the two, perhaps she has an older soul. However, she is definitely goofier than he is.

I couldn't help including the top photo- I took an incredible and inspiring online photography class with Kirsten Lewis  about Storytelling through photography on Creative Live. I cannot tell you how my world and view has changed. I am not a professional photographer and will never make a living from it but this class has opened my eyes and makes me want to document my kids life in a whole new way. I might be starting a new series on the blog- I need to think about it more but as soon as I figure the details out I will let you know all about it.

These were taken with my Nikon D60 ( I lost my D3200 in London)  and with my 35mm lens - all in manual shooting mode. I had a lot of trouble getting the face bright in MisterM's shot but that smile was too good not to share! The photos aren't technically perfect and I have a lot to learn but I am very pleased with the emotion I get from them.

" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

MisterM- waiting patiently for his piano recital to start. I am not sure he was nervous at all. Very serious, yes! He did amazing.

MissE- with those big brown eyes she can get away with almost anything! She is growing up so fast.

I read my beginners book to photography this week. These were taken with my Nikon D3200  and my 50mm lens. I will not lie, I use the auto function and light room for some post editing. However, I did shoot some photos in manual mode this weekend- on the blog this week, I promise!

" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

MissE- messy hair all. the. time!
Mister M- my little winker.

Both taken with my i-Phone. I am a little frustrated with my dslr at the moment, i just need to sit down with someone so they can teach me how to use it. I am useless trying to figure it out on my own. I did buy a book- let's see how that goes!

" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

Mister M- sometimes he likes to dress nice and wear bow ties. He is by little heartbreaker.

MissE- got to wear mommy's make up for the first time for her ballet show. She couldn't have been happier and insisted on applying the lipstick all alone.

I can't believe I missed 11 weeks of this challenge- it's not like I haven't been taking photos! Life has finally slowed down and hope to see you here every sunday.

" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

MissE:  being silly as always. Makes it hard to take photos of her sometimes. This is my favorite shot from the Small Fry Skinny Jeans photoshoot. We had fun creating a giant ice cream in the hopes to bring a little spring into our lives. This winter is the longest e-v-e-r.

MissE: Guess who got a hair cut??? finally. He was such a good sport too. Sat quietly the entire time. A first.

Since I had no picture of Mister M last week, I figure 2 would be cool for this one. New hair and a sad face because he wasn't the fastest on the ice today.

Guess who got a new camera? Well Nikon finally replaced my broken one with a new one ( after having it fixed for the same issue 4 times!). I am a happy camper. Only Mister M's photos were taken with the camera.

" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

MissE:  not many people know this about her but she is a silly goose.
(I am not sure how i got this lighting with my phone but I love it!)

Mister M : soaking up some sun. I think he is excited for spring, he wears his cap over his winter hat every chance he gets.
On a side note, this kid needs a haircut.

My camera is still broken, so these are from my i-phone again- no filters, no editing!

MisterM: waiting patiently for his pancakes...

MissE:  what is the best part of a hot chocolate? naturally it is the left over undissolved powder at the bottom of the mug!

My camera is still broken, so these are from my i-phone again- no filters, no editing! blah.

" A portrait of my children once a week, every week in 2014"

MisterM: This little boy has been a little sad the past couple of weeks. It's so nice to see him back to his happy self.

MissE: Don't you love the little faces your kids do when they concentrate? He is MissE… very concentrated.

MisterM: planning, building, exploring… he could spend hours playing with his legos.

MissE: going through her princess phase, mixed with super heroes and add a whole lot of attitude to the mix too!
