I heart... MINABULLE

This season I am loving Minabulle sweet collection. I just love how Emilie Moreau has mixed and matched the delicate colors with the grey and blacks, as well as her choice of fabric and prints. I particularly like the contrast linnings and the colorful piping, it add a nice touch even to simplest of styles. The overalls have to be my favorite, one for Miss E, one for Mister M and one for me too pleazeeee!

Minabulle is handmade in France and sizes go from 6months to 6years. You can view the entire collection in the webshop and follow Emilie's journey on her blog.

La Petite Magazine... Issue 9

Oh la la Issue 9 of La Petite Magazine is finally out and I'm so proud to be part of it, a very small part but still! I had submitted my Lovely Finds and Petite Style selection so long ago, that I almost forgot what I had chosen. A few months later, I'm still pleased!!! I would love it if you could check it out. My selection was based oin the theme of camping and the great outdoors, here's a sneek peak...

And here are a few photoshoots and things I liked... I have to say I was particulary impressed with the typography, as silly as this may sound, I found it gave the magazine an edge and sometimes the smallest details is want what makes you stand out in the crownd.

Also, I was so impressed to see so many boys in this issue. I think there are more photshoots with boys than girls. I just love that! Boy are usually always the underdogs in fashion publications, oh but not this time...
Let's Rock, photgraphed by Romi Stern was a great example of that and probably my favorite photoshoot.

The other thing I noticed was that almost every photoshoot had kids jumping in them. I always try to catch my kids jumping but my photos never come out as great as all the ones in the magazine. These photos are from the shoot entilted Circus, photographed by Lucila Blumencweig.

I was so excited to see my friend Marie-Laure's bedroom from La Maison de Loulou, she always does such a great job at decorating kids rooms. I'm still waiting for her to come to Montreal and give me some tips for my kids rooms...

Since we are on the topic of kids bedroom, the magazine is filled with great rooms to get inspired by, you have got to check Mae's room by Petit Sweet and I always enjpoy Kristin Groves Quick Tips. I say yes to armoires and yes to pink and orange as a color combination in a kids room.
You might also want to check out the cute DIY bunting by Fawn and Forest too. A nice touch to any room, if you ask me!

Let's see, what else caught my eye? How cute is this little boy? Photgraphed by Plotr Matyka. That is some fancy back to school outfit.

As always, I'm a huge fan of Barb Bruno's collages...

And Rebecca Cohen styling blew me away. She put together some of the sweetest outfits for several different photoshoot. Combined with Karolina Henke photography, these kids were killin it!

There is so much more to discover, like a great book review by Kristin Loffer, I think I might have to get Mister M "This is the way to the Moon".

And I couldn't end this post without mentioning Femke Rejeman and Marieke Franke from WeWantWow. The shots were fresh, the kids too hip and cool, and the styling just like I like it! Seriously, Marieke can do no wrong in my books, you should check out the Wewantwow Tumblr and Pinterest account, it never dissapoint.

So are you excited to La Petite's new issue? Or perhaps you've read it already, did you love it?

The Iconics... a little dress-up inspiration.

With Halloween just around the corner, I figured some of you might be in need of some inspiration! Some easy dress-up ideas, the- look at what's in our closest- kind of costume.
How perfect is this editorial shoot, entitled The Iconics from spanish magazine bbmundo for that? All you need are a few added accessories to their existing clothing and your kids can be dressed up in some great icons from the past.
I don't know about you, but my kids don't have a clue who any of these people are, and if I were to dress them up as Andy Warhol, Frida, or Audrey Hepburn you could be sure I would teach them a thing or two about who they are imitating. I just love that idea!

Now it's too bad my kids have already decided, almost 4 months ago, what tehir Halloween costumes would be for this year or I might have gone the Iconic route. To think of it, Mister M costume could have maybe made this photo-shoot! You'll just have to wait and see...

If you are looking for some more inspiration, I had this fun post last year with different ideas from kids editorial as well.  I always have my Dress-Up Pinterest board, filled with the oddest and the most generic of costume inspiration!

So do you know what your kids dressing up as? Are you telling? I would love to know!!!

DIY: minimal masks

I thought I'd share this really simple DIY just in time for Halloween or in my house for a walk in the park! I'll show you how to make these basic and minimalist animal masks, but feel free to decorate and add on as much as your heart contents.

How did all of this get started, last year for Miss E Birthday Party I had set up a small table for the kids to create their own mask.
I had pre-cut some mask in black & white, took out some color paper and makers and had the kid create their own little masterpieces. It was a great success.
**P.S. this could be a great Halloween party activity too!

Then 2 weeks ago, I wanted to take some photos of the kids for my new kids collection for Minibulles and I thought it would be nice to add a fun element to the photo-shoot. I remembered I had a few of those blank masks left over from the party and thought it would be cool to create some Bunny and Cat masks to match the clothes. The masks came out great, the high fashion editorial shoot... not so great!!! It didn't help I forgot to charge my batteries and was left with an iPhone 4 to shoot, not that photography is part of my set of skills anyways.
**Note to myself, hire a professional photographer for the spring-summer 2013 photo-shoot.

At least you got a tutorial from it!!!

What you might need... only because I give you a few options!

-Bristol Cardboard white or/and black
-Colorful paper
-Glue
-Pencil
-Scissors
-Colored crayons or markers
-Elastic, ribbon or small stick.

STEP1:
First you will want to download the PDF file I created HERE. Once they are printed you will need to cut the shape you would like to use, don't forget to cut out the eyes. This will be your template.

STEP2:
Trace the main mask and the eye holes onto your bristol cardboard. If you are using the ribbon or the elastic to attach your mask, then trace the small circles as well.

STEP3:
Cut all around, cut the eyes and poke a small whole in the tiny circles where your elastic or ribbon will go (I used the end of my scissors and pressed ever so gently).

STEP4:
Choose which animal you want to be, then you can cut a set of ears in the bristol board and cut a smaller set in the colored paper for the inner ear. You will see in the PDF file that I made a dotted line as a guide for the approximate size of the inner ears. Now glue the inner ears onto your bristol board ears.

 STEP5:
Tape your ears on the backside of your mask. I tried gluying them but tape holds much better!
In order to avoid your ears from flapping back, you could add a bit of glue to the front part of your ears that is pressing against the mask. Be careful not to put too much glue or too high, specially on the black cardboard, it might show.
I highly recommend adding two pieces of tape where your ribbon or elastic will be passing through. This will avoid the cardboard from ripping and will make your mask longer lasting.

Have fun, go crazy and customize your mask. Do you see the boat in Mister M's masterpiece? He also only wanted his ears to be only blue, a little less resistant but nevertheless cute!

 STEP6:
#1 You can attach a wooden stick with some tape to your mask. It gives it that photo-booth prop vibe!
Not so practical to play in though.

or #2 Attach your mask with a ribbon. I did this at Miss E's birthday party and had all kinds of different colors to choose from. It can be a nice added detail!

my favorite #3 The elastic! Stays in place nicely, the kids can put it on all by themselves.

Here is how I attached my elastic: pass the elastic through your tiny holes from the front to the back. Determine the length by placing the mask on your child's head and make a knot. Careful, don't make it too tight or too loose either!

Simple as 1, 2, 3!

Feel free to change the shape of the eyes, make different ears, add some whiskers and rosey cheeks, or add some glitter, lot's of glitter!

We like ours simple, that way it goes with anyone of our outfits!!!
